Research & Initiatives

Welcome to the Research section of our lab website! Our team is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge in the fields of bioinformatics, structural biology, X-ray crystallography, and rational structure-based drug design. Led by Dr. Punit Kaur, Professor and Head, Department of Biophysics, AIIMS New Delhi, we are currently focused on a multidisciplinary approach that combines experimental and computational methodologies, including genomic, proteomic, and X-ray crystallographic analysis.

Our team has made significant contributions to the field of structural biology and drug design. We have determined the structures of various proteins, including the dimeric form of peptidoglycan recognition protein involved in innate cell immunity, lactoperoxidase, a new family of mammary gland proteins, the first dimeric disintegrin, ribose inactivating proteins, and several phospholipase A2s. These structural studies have led to the design of lead molecules against diseases such as inflammation, cancer, and microbial infections.

Our research interests in bioinformatics include identifying novel targets for drug development, protein homology modeling, molecular docking and virtual screening, and identification of lead molecules. We also focus on identifying the structural basis of diseases due to point mutations and the development of databases related to proteins/genes implicated in various complex diseases such as cancer.

Our lab is led by Dr. Punit Kaur, Professor and Head at the Department of Biophysics, AIIMS New Delhi, who is a member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, India.
